Scott Beatty by Butch Guice!
News and Notables from ScottBeatty.com!
Many new publications in current and upcoming release!
Here’s what was, what is, and what will be…
It’s not what you think. Here’s the official press release from DC Comics:
DC TO COLLECT SOLD-OUT NIGHTWING YEAR ONE STORY IN JULYApril 5th, 2005 –
With the entire 6-part NIGHTWING:Year One story now sold out at DC Comics, DC announces that this hard-hitting tale will be collected in trade paperback in July.
The story, written by Chuck Dixon & Scott Beatty and illustrated by Scott McDaniel & Andy Owens, appeared twice monthly in NIGHTWING #101-106.
“Collaborating with my good friend Chuck Dixon is always an exciting ride, this time made even more thrilling with Scott McDaniel & Andy Owens rendering our story,” says Beatty. “Many thanks to the retailers for spreading the buzz about NIGHTWING: Year One and going above and beyond to see that their customers were able to find the issues. And much appreciation to the readers who were so supportive of this untold tale of Dick Grayson’s transition from Teen Wonder to adult crimefighter.”
“Scott and I have been very pleased with the fan response to all the Year Ones we’ve done,” Dixon says. “This sell-out is especially gratifying since it’s a return to a title I’ve had a lot of success with in the past. Plus, I got teamed with Mr. McDaniel again, which is always a blast.”
The NIGHTWING: YEAR ONE TP is scheduled to arrive in stores in July.
Boo-yah!
A small correction for your two cents: My Alfred Pennyworth two-parter will now be chronicled in DETECTIVE COMICS #806-807, not the later issue(s) as previously noted. Jeff Parker (The Interman) pencils, inks, and colors this “Alfred Year One” story spotlighting Alfie’s espionage days.
You heard me.

Another correction: Amazon.com is presently offering Dorling Kindersley’s BATMAN: THE ULTIMATE GUIDE TO THE DARK KNIGHT, featuring that nifty new cover by Jim Lee. And it’s in bookstores now, too!
Many new spreads and an expanded Timeline.
And yes, DARK KNIGHT RETURNS is covered this time.
So climb down off my back and begone you Elseworlds heathens…
My recently released THE BATMAN HANDBOOK from Quirk Books is getting some buzz in various monthly publications, including the latest issues of FHM, SYNC, and WIZARD magazines. If you haven’t yet picked up a copy (of the book, that is), you’re obviously not serious about becoming a superhero.
Everything you need to know to be Batman (minus the billions of dollars in operating capital) is in there with step-by-step procedures and easy-to-follow illustrations by David Hahn!
My next major comic book release outside of the Bat-Universe is SON OF VULCAN, a six-issue miniseries from DC Comics. SOV is illustrated by ace artist Keron Grant and follows the misadventures of Miguel “Mikey” Devante, a kid sidekick who begins his superheroic career under less-than-ideal circumstances.
Forget what you know about that “other” Son of Vulcan. This isn’t Johnny Mann, the old Charlton Comics character acquired by DC years ago and subsequently kakked in WAR OF THE GODS.
Only the title is the same. This is a brand-new take on the costumed partner archetype. For a sneak peak at SON OF VULCAN #1, just click here and be instantly transported to DC’s official behind-the-scenes look.
The series debuts this June, so join Keron and me for a hot time. And if you like it enough to see more, write to DC!
Finally, thanks to Diamond Comic Distributors, Inc. for naming THE DC COMICS ENCYCLOPEDIA as TRADE BOOK OF THE YEAR in its 15th Annual Diamond Gem Awards. As one of the four writers on the tome (alongside Bob Greenberger, Phil Jimenez, and Dan Wallace), it’s especially gratifying to be honored in such fine fashion.
