SITE UPDATES

Ladies and Gentlemen, what you see here is the last update of www.scottbeatty.com by the incomparable Scott McCullar. To better focus his time on family and the continued success of Shooting Star Comics, Scott has relinquished his webmastering reins at this locale and other sister sites like www.dixonverse.net.

Of course, Scott still regularly haunts all his old sites, so there's no point in getting misty-eyed with tearful farewells just yet…

But please join me in wishing Scott the best of luck with all his future endeavors!

And if you haven't yet aimed your comic reading sights on Shooting Star Comics Anthology, SSCA #4 is available now at a retailer near you!

Now, back to our regularly scheduled programming, some news and notes to get you through the Summer convention season…

(Quick Note from Scott McCullar: I want to thank Scott Beatty and Chuck Dixon for all their help and friendship over the years and allowing me to help as their webmasters! You guys have been an inspiration and a big help. As Scott Beatty said above, I needed to take the next steps on my own path, and it is a busy one. I'll see you guys in the funny pages! Best Regards!

Scott "Shaft" McCullar)

TO THE BOOKMOBILE!

Here's the lowdown on a quartet of recently completed book projects:

Dorling Kindersley's CATWOMAN: THE VISUAL GUIDE TO THE FELINE FATALE is already in stores. Get your copy today!

BATMAN BEYOND: THE ANIMATED SERIES GUIDE, another DK offering, will hit booksellers this September.

The DC COMICS ENCYCLOPEDIA, co-written by DC Comics continuity guru Bob Greenberger, writer/artist Phil Jimenez, author Dan Wallace, and myself is slated for a December 2004 release, just in time for the holidays. Cast your eyes upon the wonderful cover image by the legendary Alex Ross, recently profiled in all his comic-loving glory on the Cartoon Network!

And that "other" Bat-Book I've been hinting about?

Coming soon from Quirk Books and DC Comics is THE BATMAN HANDBOOK: THE ULTIMATE TRAINING MANUAL. The fine folks at Quirk are the same people who brought you the best-selling The Worst-Case Scenario Survival Guide, The Action Hero's Handbook, and The Action Heroine's Handbook.

Completed with the help of law enforcement agents, forensic experts, physicians, stuntpeople, and other crime-stopping experts, THE BATMAN HANDBOOK puts in layman's terms just how the Dark Knight does what he does so well. Do you know how to survive a poison gas attack? Or how to extract a confession from an unrepentant criminal? Or how to take out a roomful of goons with just your bare hands and the items in your Utility Belt (which I'll tell you how to assemble)? It's all in there, including step-by-step instructions and easy-to-follow illustrations by David Hahn!

COMIC RELIEF

After so many book projects in succession, I'm happily having fun with several comic book projects for DC Comics.

I'm sworn to secrecy on the nature of each, but I'll spill the beans as soon as The-Powers-That-Be give me sanction to do so.

Very likely, one or both of the projects will be announced at either the San Diego Comicon or Wizard World Chicago in July and August, respectively.

I have plans to attend at least one of the conventions. However, my con schedule won't be finalized for a few weeks yet.

In the meantime, keep readin' them funny books and have a wonderful Summer!:
