NIGHTWING YEAR ONEI've been working on two comic book projects recently, the first is another teaming with my pal Chuck Dixon, with whom I co-wrote the best-selling and critically lauded ROBIN YEAR ONE and BATGIRL YEAR ONE for DC Comics. Chuck and I are completing our trilogy with NIGHTWING YEAR ONE, which chronicles Dick Grayson's choice to give up the role of Robin and continue crime fighting in a whole new super heroic guise. This time around, our artist is Scott McDaniel (ably inked by the awesome Andy Owens), making this a reunion of sorts for the original NIGHTWING monthly series team. And in that regard, NIGHTWING YEAR ONE will depart from the standard miniseries format and be published in the regular monthly NIGHTWING title, running for six issues beginning with NIGHTWING #101 this winter! I've already seen Scott's pages, which look absolutely incredible! NIGHTWING YEAR ONE examines in great detail how Dick's
decision to quit the job of Teen Wonder affected not only himself
but also the entire Bat-Family! |
SON OF VULCANAlso for DC Comics, I'm hard at work on SON OF VULCAN, a brand-new take on the classic Charlton Comics character of yesteryear. Forget what you know (or think you know) about Son of Vulcan. Johnny Mann, he ain't! Readers of the IN DEMAND newsletter published in the back of DC titles have already gotten a hint at the tenor of this new series, which reinvents the concept of SOV from the ground up! Joining me for the six-issue SOV miniseries is the phenomenally talented Keron Grant. Keron-whose artistic credits include IRON MAN and NEW MUTANTS for Marvel Comics-and I met in-person at this past summer's Wizard World Chicago comic book convention, and we're busy creating what we hope will be the next breakout star in DC's superhero pantheon. Look for SON OF VULCAN #1
in March 2005!

TO THE BOOKMOBILE!I just finished one Bat-Book (of sorts) in recent days, and signed on for another! The first is an update of my already-published BATMAN: THE ULTIMATE GUIDE TO THE DARK KNIGHT from Dorling Kindersley. DK has added 16 pages of new material to the original volume, bringing Bat-Readers up to speed on the Caped Crusader's latest adventures. Look for it in stores in Spring 2005! Next up is BATMAN BEGINS: THE VISUAL GUIDE. After getting a sneak peek at the new Bat-Flick at WW Chicago, I was champing at the bit when DK offered me the job to write the official guide to the film, which stars Christian Bale as Batman. I'm just beginning work on this one, due in bookstores in time for Warner Brothers' release of BATMAN BEGINS next summer!
CATWOMAN: THE VISUAL GUIDE TO THE FELINE FATALE (DK) - Available NOW! BATMAN BEYOND: THE ANIMATED SERIES GUIDE (DK) - Available NOW! THE DC COMICS ENCYCLOPEDIA (DK) - Available NOW! BATMAN HANDBOOK: THE ULTIMATE TRAINING MANUAL (Quirk Books) - In stores Spring 2005! That's all the news that's fit to print. See ya in the funny pages!
