A short missive this update, mainly to plug my monthly comic book titles, the next Dorling Kindersley Ultimate Guide, and a few random appearances:

WATCHING THE DETECTIVES

As I go to press on this update, January 2003 solicits aren't yet posted…

However, I can offer up a few hints regarding what to expect in a trio of DC Comics and CrossGen Comics offerings that month to celebrate the New Year:

BATGIRL: YEAR ONE #2 (of 9) (DC Comics)
Things go from bad to worse as Barbara Gordon finds that the vigilante biz ain't for the faint of heart. And we got (count 'em!) five superheroes this ish!

Chuck Dixon and I wrote it. And Marcos Martín and Alvaro Lopez drew it.

Hey! Check out the fully colored art from BATGIRL: YEAR ONE #1! Ain't it pretty?

RUSE #16 (CrossGen Comics)
Where are Simon and Emma? And who are the two newest sleuths in Partington? Let's just say that one has trouble with simians and the other ain't so hot with sibilants.

The usual RUSE team (Butch Guice, Michael Perkins, Laura DePuy, and me!) provide the answers.

BATMAN: GOTHAM KNIGHTS #37 (DC Comics)
Batman and Spoiler. 'Nuff said. And a surprise guest-star!
Ssseriously!

It's a Scott Beatty, Roger Robinson, and John Floyd joint.

ULTIMATE SNEAK PEEK

As promised, ScottBeatty.com has been updated with a sneak peek of four interior spreads from Dorling Kindersley's JLA: THE ULTIMATE GUIDE TO THE JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA.

  • GREEN LANTERN
  • THE WATCHTOWER
  • THE KEY
  • THE CSA (Crime Syndicate of America)

Give 'em a gander and let me know what you think on the message board!

And don't forget that several examples of post-production penciled artwork are available for perusal on behind-the-scenes.

As I mentioned previously, a fourth Ultimate Guide is in the works. But before I begin writing that tome, DK is putting me to work on a pair of offerings devoted to…

…well, let's just say that they're the world's finest guys… and fairly animated personalities at that.

Less hinting, more revealing next month.

PERSONAL APPEARANCES

Last update I reported that I'll be appearing Saturday, October 19th in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. Unfortunately, I misnamed the venue.

In truth, I'll be at the Osterhout Free Library on 71 Franklin Street, alongside penciler Tom Derenick (NIGHTSIDE, SUPERMAN) and Dave Romeo, owner of Scranton, PA's renowned Comics on the Green retail shop.

Tom and Dave are longtime friends who understand me when I lapse into Bizarro-speak.

They am worst peoples me know.

Rah.

Also, just another reminder that I'll be in attendance at Mid-Ohio-Con in Columbus, Ohio on November 31st and December 1st.

I'll be signing comics, books, and free DK JLA and Superman posters… and likely doodling very bad caricatures of Batman.

The November website update will include a more succinct itinerary, including panel schedules and times I'll be wandering the floor buying things I don't need.

In the meantime, me am not see you in unfunny books.

Hello,

Scottzarro

IN THE NEXT UPDATE:

Words. Nothing but words.
