September 30, 2002

Summer's over, the convention season is concluded, and I've finally got a few minutes to provide a long-awaited missive with news and notes on current and upcoming projects.

So here goes…

GOTHAM KNIGHTS

My run as writer of DC Comics' BATMAN: GOTHAM KNIGHTS began on September 18th with issue GOTHAM KNIGHTS #33. I'm anxious to read what you loyal Bat-ophiles think of my debut, so feel free to weigh in on the message board.

As well, check out some of guest artist Mike Collins' penciled pages on this month's behind-the-scenes update!

RUSE

I've begun the transition to scripter of CrossGen Comics' RUSE by providing dialogue on the last several issues.

I officially take over the title with October's RUSE #13.

That said, I'd also like to see what readers of the title have to say about my take on intrepid Arcadian detectives Simon Archard and Emma Bishop, so don't hesitate to jump over to the message board for your mysterious musings.

ULTIMATE UPDATE

Okay, this tidbit is likely a trifle misleading.

For months I've been promising to reveal the subject of the next DC Ultimate Guide I'll be writing for Dorling Kindersley.

Well, it's still in the works… but I can't spill the beans just yet.

However…

… I can report that I've just agreed to write several other essential DC-related books for DK in addition to the fourth character-related volume.

And I'm pleased to tease everyone with the knowledge that next month's website update (posted October 15th) will feature sneak peeks of several spreads from JLA: THE ULTIMATE GUIDE, on sale this November!

This month you can preview some pre-production penciled artwork generated specifically for the book! Just click on over to behind-the-scenes.

And if you haven't checked it out already, SUPERMAN: THE ULTIMATE GUIDE is on sale everywhere!

BATGIRL, YO!

This month's update also includes some fairly extensive additions to the previews page, including the first solicitation information for BATGIRL: YEAR ONE, a nine-issue DC Comics mini-series co-written with my pal and collaborator Chuck Dixon, penciled by my good friend Marcos Martín, and incredibly inked by Alvaro Lopez.

BATGIRL: YO is slated to begin this December… but for any Barbara Gordon fans hankering to see a teeny-tiny peek at related art, just click over to the ubiquitous behind-the-scenes and peruse some of Marcos's lovingly-rendered preliminary sketches!

PUBLIC ACCESS

Just a few public appearances to report, beginning with a Saturday, October 19th stop in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, at the Wilkes-Barre Public Library. I'll be speaking alongside penciler Tom Derenick (NIGHTSIDE, SUPERMAN) and Dave Romeo, owner of Scranton PA's awesome Comics on the Green retail shop.

Both are bestest friends… and the three of us will be espousing the virtues of the four-color medium.

And then we'll dazzle the audience with our tap-dancing skills.

Following that, I'm all signed up to attend this year's Mid-Ohio-Con in Columbus, Ohio on November 31st and December 1st.

I look forward to meeting interested readers in either location!

That's it for now! See you on October 15th!

Best,

Scott

IN THE NEXT UPDATE:

Things, stuff, knickknacks, and doodads!
