April 6, 2002
Let me first thank webmaster Scott McCullar for going above and beyond the call of duty. Last month, Scott added some nifty new design elements to the site. This time around, Mr. McCullar worked overtime to provide a pretty expansive update to certain sections, which I'll describe in detail herewith:
In
the last few years I've been blessed to have the opportunity to
work with some truly remarkable artistic talents. Becoming friends
with so many comic book pencilers and inkers has been both creatively
and personally fulfilling. A few of these stand-up guys deserve
special mention for some of the eye-candy currently gracing my
digital domain.
Graham Nolan, artist of REX MORGAN, M.D. and Sunday's THE PHANTOM newspaper strips, provided the "World's Finest" image of Superman and Batman now headlining this page.
Marcos Martin, with whom I'm collaborating alongside co-writer Chuck Dixon on the upcoming BATGIRL: YEAR ONE submitted the "hard-boiled writer" and Batman images gracing the HOME and MESSAGE BOARD pages, respectively.
In addition, Marcos joins Pete Woods (ROBIN) and Andy Kuhn (DIGIMON) for this month's mammoth BEHIND-THE-SCENES additions, a virtual sketchbook of characters and settings featured in the recent JOKER: LAST LAUGH.
Kudos to all for their ceaseless talent and unbounded generosity.

A
correction: I'll be taking over scripting honors of DC Comics'
BATMAN: GOTHAM KNIGHTS with issue #33, beginning
this September, instead of the preceding issue as previously reported.
Current writer Devin
Grayson has one more tale to tell before setting up shop
in Blüdhaven and chronicling NIGHTWING. I'm
in the thick of writing GK #35 right now and loving
every minute of it.

The cover of SUPERMAN: THE ULTIMATE GUIDE TO THE MAN
OF STEEL, as rendered
by Super-artist Ed McGuinness, can be seen at right. Just
click over to PREVIEWS
for more info on the volume, scheduled for release this July by
Dorling Kindersley
(DK) and available through Amazon.com, comic book retailers, and
major booksellers.Logon to this website's SNEAK PEEK section on May 15 for an exclusive advance look at several interior spreads from the hardcover.
In the meantime, I'm chugging ahead on JLA: THE ULTIMATE GUIDE TO THE JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA, once more teaming with DK illustrator Robert Perry. Wait'll you see the magnificent cutaway cross-sections of the Watchtower, Atlantis, Green Arrow's trick arrows
YIKES! I've said too much!

Anyway, this one's coming out
in November, just in time for your holiday wish lists.

Last month I reported that BATMAN:
THE ULTIMATE GUIDE TO THE DARK KNIGHT would be reprinted
in German and Italian editions for the European market. As of
this writing, a Spanish publisher is in talks to bring everyone's
favorite Dark Knight to the Iberian peninsula. More details as
they become available.
During February 22-24, I attended MegaCon
at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida. In
addition to briefly meeting up with friends Andy Kuhn,
Phil Hester, and Ron Marz, I spent time with DC
staffers Bob Schreck (my guiding group editor) and Patty
Jeres (marketing guru and longtime pal). I also divided my
time immersed in back-issue bins and chatting with comics veterans
Ramona Fradon, Carmine Infantino, Nick Cardy,
Berni Wrightson, Mart Nodell, George Tuska,
and a host of other wonderful writers and artists.Next update I'll provide the pictures. In the meantime, check out one of my Mega-Acquisitions, a bootleg Superman/Supergirl "Kubricks" set from China. For those not in the know, "Kubricks" are wonderful Lego-inspired action figures. Obviously, this one wasn't authorized. Take a look below at this diamond in the rough.

And as far as future conventions are concerned, on the immediate front I'm planning on attending Wizard World Philadelphia in early May, and I have tentative plans to visit the Pittsburgh Comicon at the end of April. I'll check back with more firm plans for both shows next month.
