WHAT'S NEW?

News and Notables from ScottBeatty.com!

FIRST THINGS FIRST...

My apologies to anyone hoping to hook up for a chat with me at the recent Comicon International in San Diego. Family commitments kept me from attending this year. Hopefully, I'll have the opportunity to speak with those of you traveling to this year's Wizard World 2001 convention in Chicago.

IT'S A BAT-TIME!

I'm finally able to make good on my promise to preview pages from my forthcoming BATMAN: THE ULTIMATE GUIDE TO THE DARK KNIGHT hardcover from Dorling Kindersley. This time around, I'm pleased to offer a sneak peek of both the ROBIN and BAT-WEAPONS spreads.

Look for two more spreads to be previewed next month as I head for the September 1st on-sale date.

UPDATES ALL AROUND

There's quite a bit of material added to the website this update, courtesy of webmaster Scott McCullar:

In COMICOGRAPHY, surfers can check out the addition of SUPERMAN: OUR WORLDS AT WAR SECRET FILES #1, which features a short DCU "documentary" I wrote recently.

In PREVIEWS, I've just added all the solicitation info and covers for DC Comics' October Joker-centric event LAST LAUGH. Brian Bolland provides book-ending covers, with Scott McDaniel handling all the interim exteriors.

If you haven't heard, the entire DCU is taking part in the event, with Walter Simonson, Ed McGuinness, Tim Sale, Jim Lee, and Bill Sienkiewicz (respectively) rendering the covers for all the books each week of the five-week crossover.

Just a quick reminder: THE JOKER: LAST LAUGH mini-series is self-contained, though the madness will indeed spill over into every regular DCU title throughout October and into the beginning of November 2001.

In BEHIND-THE-SCENES, Andy Kuhn (artist of THE JOKER: LAST LAUGH #4) provided viewers with his original costume design sketches for Kid Kobra, last seen in ROBIN #88-91, which I co-wrote with regular ROBIN scribe Chuck Dixon. Last seen in ROBIN #92, Danny faces a pretty dangerous future in the DCU.

That's all I'm saying.

IT AIN'T EASY BEING GREEN!

Last WHAT'S NEW? I mentioned that GL Raker Qarrigat (from GREEN LANTERN 80-PAGE GIANT #3) is included in West End Games' upcoming GREEN LANTERN SOURCEBOOK.

I'm also happy to mention that Raker re-teams with Jack Kirby's Dog of War in this September's ORION #18, courtesy of writer/artist Walt Simonson.

OH, SUPERMAN…

Finally, I'll be stopping by the MESSAGE BOARD as much as I can in the near future while I work steadily on SUPERMAN: THE ULTIMATE GUIDE and other hush-hush projects.

Where the former is concerned, I've just seen preliminary spreads for both the Metropolis and Krypton spreads, both of which look utterly fantastic.

As for the latter, I hope to have more concrete news to share either during or after the Chicago comic convention, if not sooner.

Otherwise, that's it for now! Thanks for logging on!

Best,

Scott
