While
some fairly oppressive heat and humidity settled over the East
Coast this past week, I spent most of the time indoors capping
off some lingering works and a few writing projects in their infancy:
I recently completed several fun and freaky pieces for THE JOKER: LAST LAUGH SECRET FILES, a "prequel" book to the October DC Comics "Fifth Week" event I co-authored with Chuck Dixon.
By the way, please note a correction
to the artistic lineup for the six-issue mini-series: Due to scheduling
conflicts, Robert Teranishi WILL NOT be penciling THE JOKER:
LAST LAUGH #6, the penultimate chapter of our Jokerpalooza.
Instead, the multi-talented Rick Burchett (BATMAN/HUNTRESS:
CRY FOR BLOOD) will tackle the art chores. I'm already salivating
with anticipation of Rick's delightful pencils
Just prior to the LL SECRET FILES, I delivered the first installments of SUPERMAN: THE ULTIMATE GUIDE TO THE MAN OF STEEL to DC and Dorling Kindersley. Primary among that work was a 25-page single-spaced Timeline chronicling Kal-El's history from 1938 to oh, say last month.
Ironically, the Timeline is slated for only three spreads (six pages total) of the actual hardcover volume.
But it's done, thank Rao (as pre-CRISIS Supes would say) and I owe copies of the finished book to Super-Readers and former DC staffers Mark Waid and Bob Greenberger for lending their historical expertise and unparalleled DC trivia knowledge.
And thank (in no particular order)
to current Super-Creators Jeph Loeb, Joe Kelly, Mark Schultz,
and Joe Casey for bringing back Krypto.
ScottBeatty.com Webmaster and freelance writer/artist Scott McCullar informed me this past week that Green Lantern Raker Qarrigat, from my GREEN LANTERN 80-PAGE GIANT #3 (see COMICOGRAPHY), will be profiled along with the rest of the GL Corps in DC and West End Games' new GREEN LANTERN SOURCEBOOK. Go Raker!
I had hoped to announce several new comics projects by the writing of this update, but final approval processes move with the speed of a glacier.
So
Keep checking back on the WHAT'S
NEW? page and Message Board for more info, he said
cryptically
Though I'm still firming up exact travel and appearance plans for the Summer comic cons in San Diego and Chicago, I've just committed to a show slated for September 23rd at the Clarion Hotel in Scranton, Pennsylvania. It's shaping up to be a real Bat-Creator event with Chuck Dixon and Graham Nolan among other possible guests. Plus, I hear the legendary Jim Aparo might even be attending! I'll pop back with exact details and a full guest list as soon as each are made available.

The wonderful Andy Kuhn, penciler of THE JOKER: LAST LAUGH #3, rendered the guy you see to the right. For details on his identity, check out ROBIN #91, on sale June 20th!
Thanks for dropping by, one and all. See ya in the funny books!
Best,
Scott
Stuff I've been promising for a while
now, including first looks at actual pages from BATMAN: THE ULTIMATE GUIDE TO THE DARK KNIGHT!
Remember, you can advance order copies now from Amazon.com!
Yay!
