One of the joys of writing JOKER: LAST LAUGH was knowing that my good friend Andy Kuhn would be both penciling and inking the third issue of the mini-series. Previously, Andy had collaborated with co-writer Chuck Dixon and myself on YOUNG JUSTICE IN NO MAN'S LAND. Chuck and I knew that Andy's dynamic artistic style would be ideally suited to the wild ride we envisioned and Andy certainly didn't disappoint.

We needed a weather-altering bad guy, plain and simple. The Weather Wizard was otherwise occupied. Typhoon was missing-in-action. So Chuck and I took the path of least resistance and concocted our own rainy day villain: Stormfront. Given that the Slab housed thousands of meta-powered criminals, one of our goals was to leave a few new rogues behind in our "Jokerized" wake. Stormy's just one of them.
Andy saysI wanted to make the Stormfront design look a little like the wet suits you see some surfers wear. Originally, the light stripe in the middle had a graphic lightning bolt shape to it. But DC said that they already had enough characters with a lightning bolt design (Flash, Impulse, etc.), so I simplified it to a stripe. As to why he has a big collar or the little poof of hair in front, I just thought they looked interesting. |
